Join us in celebrating the success of the Longest Day event in June. We surpassed our goal!
Co-sponsors Altercare of Big Rapids, Metron of Big Rapids and Jordan Balkema Elder Law Center had an original goal of $1600. Through donations, mini-fundraisers, sponsorships and a silent auction, this goal was surpassed and we are thrilled to announce the total of our fundraiser was $2555 to benefit the Alzheimer's Association!
Mary Loesch opened up her Tai Chi class to our participants and shared how to keep the mind agile and fresh by using stretching and exercise to stimulate the brain.
Staff from Altercare presented activities and ideas for keeping those with dementia active and feeling vital. Metron staff provided a wealth of information about choosing healthy brain foods and what the benefits are.
Last but not least, Mary Beth Beamer shared from her heart about her own experience with dementia and how she and her husband Alan weathered the storm and made the most of the time they had. She encouraged us to make a point to reach out to friends and family with dementia with a well-wishes, a hug or just a few minutes of your time for a story. Mary Beth's homework for us all that evening was to share information with friends and family about the prevalence of dementias.
