A New York assisted living facility which was alleged to have kept former Brooklyn judge John Phillips confined to its facility against his will for 8 months prior to his death and banned his family members to visit him has agreed to pay $750,000 to his estate. Phillips, who was known as the “Kung Fu” judge for the gestures he made in court, was 83 when he died. The owner of the facility claimed there was a court ordering the “Kung Fu” judge’s confinement, but the owner could not produce such an order so he settled before the case went to trial.
