“Lives Without Limits” wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals living with disabilities. We are a new faith based not for profit organization serving Thomas County and the surrounding area. Our inaugural fundraiser was held on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds in Thomasville. We had a fantastic dinner and dessert followed by live and silent auctions and raffle items. To date, as a group, we have raised with cash and in-kind donations $48,000, which exceeded our goal.
The proceeds raised by this event will provide the necessary financial support Lives Without Limits will use to sponsor opportunities for groups and individuals to enjoy outdoor activities as well as in home lifestyle support. Our focus is to assist disabled children, women and men in the South Georgia and North Florida area to enjoy outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, sporting clays, archery, golf, tennis and scuba diving. We will also assist with in home needs such as wheel chair ramps and bathroom modifications. Our goal is to enable individuals with disabilities to live their lives as independently as possible. We recognize the challenge of so many in our community, and their families, that live with a disability. Many are relegated to stay in their homes daily with very few opportunities for outdoor activities. Many simply remain invisible. Please help us change that! We want to honor the courage and spirit that each of these individuals display. Many work very hard to keep their particular disability from limiting their quality of life. Lives Without Limits will not charge an individual to participate in any outdoor events we sponsor. We also hope to provide assistance for in home needs for little out of pocket expense.
Lives Without Limits (LWL) has already held several local hunting events for our adults. One participant killed his first turkey this past season. At our banquet, a dove hunt in Bolivia was auctioned. The buyer of this hunt donated it back to Lives Without Limits to benefit someone with a disability at no expense to that individual. LWL selected Stuart Jackson of Thomasville, Georgia, who has multiple sclerosis as the recipient of this hunt. LWL was also given a hunt for a child with a disability for the first weekend in December near Montgomery, Alabama. This child is able to bring up to four individuals to assist and enjoy an experience of a lifetime.
We are currently awaiting our not-for-profit status from the IRS, but we have teamed up with the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) to assist us with charitable donations and being able to proceed with various hunting and need based projects. Contributions can still be made to Lives Without Limits at P.O. Box 1652 Thomasville, Georgia 31799-1652 and a tax deduction letter from FUMC will be provided.
For more information please call 225-1182. As you can see that your tax deductable dollars are benefiting individuals here in our community. We greatly appreciated the financial support and the turn out for our banquet. Please help us make a difference. Visit our website at LivesWithoutLimitsInc.org.
