ElderLawAnswers member Ronald Fatoullah, received the Rose Kryzak Senior Leadership Award November 3 in Westbury, Long Island.
The award was given to Fatoullah, an elder law attorney based in Great Neck, N.Y., in recognition of his years of outstanding legal service, dedication, and contributions to the senior citizen population. In his acceptance speech, Fatoullah promised to continue his commitment to the senior citizen community, and to do so with the spirit and passion of Rose Kryzak.
Kryzak, who emigrated to the United States from Russia in 1910, was a longtime advocate for social justice for seniors. She led the campaign in the mid-1980s to enact New York's Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage Program, (EPIC), a program that pays for prescription drugs for low-income seniors. Today, more than 113,000 older New Yorkers benefit from this program. Kryzak was named Senior Citizen of the Year by the New York State Legislature in 1987.
