Message From Our Office
It's that time of year when many of us will do a lot of traveling. When you are getting ready for those summer trips, estate planning is probably the farthest thing from your mind. But, think about "what if..." What if something were to happen to you on your trip? What if you were in a tragic accident? Here's a few quick tips to take care of before you travel, so that you have a worry free summer vacation:
- Make a Will (have you been putting it off too long already).
- Check the beneficiary designations on things like your IRA's, 401k and life insurance; make sure they are all up to date.
- If you have minor children, or a disabled child, make sure you nominate a guardian to take over in case you cannot.
- Make a Health Care Power of Attorney; accidents happen, if you wind up in the hospital and unable to make your decisions an Advance Directive can save money and also make sure that you get your choice of who is making your decisions.
- Make a Financial Power of Attorney; just as above, in case of an accident, and in the event you are unable to manage your own finances, you need your choice of agent to be able to step in and help you out.
Hopefully your vacation is trouble free, but a little bit of planning, can help ease the worry that something could go wrong. Please call to make an appointment to meet with Peter at your convenience.
