National Train Your Brain Day, observed on October 13, raises awareness of the power of the mind and the potential benefits of positive mental training. Routine tasks do not maintain mental sharpness. This day urges us to use more of our brain’s potential capacity by expanding and exercising it.
Your brain has the potential to learn and expand as you age, a process known as brain plasticity, but you must exercise it regularly for it to do so. Reading, word puzzles, number games, brainteasers, trivia games, riddles, and word games are all good activities to “work out” your mind and develop your cognitive skills. Even simply learning something new is a beneficial “workout” for everyone’s brain.
