February arrives in the midst of winter, bringing with it American Heart Month and Valentine’s Day, both of which provide opportunities to warm our hearts.

American Heart Month, according to the American Heart Association, is dedicated to raising awareness: regarding heart disease and congenital heart issues; and, as to the educational opportunities that are available regarding the actions each of us can take to protect our heart health and to help save lives.  Saving lives and focusing on CPR is the American Heart Association's focus and theme for this year's American Heart Month. This month, the American Heart Association is stepping-up its efforts to encourage everyone to take the time to learn hands-on CPR, emphasizing that having this knowledge and skill set may, one day, help you to save a life. Valentine's Day, then, arrives mid-month. While the traditional Valentine’s Day gifts are flowers, chocolates, cards, and the like, we encourage you to think outside-of-the-box this year.  Have you created Powers of Attorney for yourself?  If not, creating Powers of Attorney for both Health Care and Property is a gift that you can give to both yourself and your loved ones.  Of course, each of us hopes that we will remain competent until our last breath. If, however, life throws you a curveball, then having valid and thoughtful Powers of Attorney in place may alleviate the need for those in your support network to look at alternatives (such as guardianship) to help you.  If you do not have Powers of Attorney in place (or you would like your current Powers of Attorney reviewed and/or updated) and you would like additional information or professional assistance regarding the same, our legal assistants are available to assist you with scheduling a meeting with one of our attorneys.

The new 988 dialing code to reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, for mental health crises, is available throughout the United States.  Additionally, veterans can now dial 988 and press 1 to reach the Veteran Crisis Line.
