The times we’re living in—
Yes, its’ an interesting time for the world—Covid 19 is in our face, generating fear for many. Unfortunately, it has brought opportunity for the “scammers” out there who are taking advantage of that fear. Here are some “scams” to be wary of:
- Scams focusing on getting “personal” information out of a consumer. Leading the pack are scams that promise access to “stimulus funds,” from either the federal or state government. Remember no legitimate federal or state agency that will solicit personal information, ex. Social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, account numbers by e-mail or telephone. Do not succumb to this.
- Debt/Credit scams. Companies are promising to provide “credit repair” or “debt reduction.” Of course, all you have to do is pay a fee upfront. The promised service is never delivered.
- Virus test kit scams. Alleged “home use” tests kits—remember the FDA has not approved any home tests for Covid 19, be wary—close the door if someone comes to your door professing to give you a home screening test , of course for a fee. Slam that door.
- Fraudulent Virus cures. Homeopathic cures, essential oils and colloidal silver as well as “vaccines.” The FDA is seeking out these fraudulent “cures.” If someone offers to sell you something as a cure or treatment for Covid 19 report it immediately.
Buyer beware—do not give out personal information to anyone reporting to offer up any of the above scams, or promises something that is too good be true. We’re in difficult times, there is no easy solution. As my dad used to say: “If it sounds too good to be true, it’s not.”
