Welcome to the July issue of the

Texas Elder Law E-letter

Our next free "Estate Planning Essentials" Workshop scheduled for Thursday, August 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. has no seats remaining! However, if you would like to be on our waiting list (sometimes we have cancellations), please call and we will add your name. We have another August Workshop scheduled for Saturday, August 26 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. To sign up for any Workshop or any Bonus Workshop (described below), you may call us at (214) 720-0102 or sign up online at www.dallaselderlawyer.com or click here to register online. For over a year there has been a waiting list for each Estate Planning Workshop. So, if interested (or you know someone interested), it is probably best to sign up sooner rather than later.

Michael B. Cohen recently spoke for the Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital for its Senior Health Talk program. He also recently spoke to a group of accountants for CE sponsored by accountant Tallie Young on long-term care planning and to a group of financial planners on the “10 Ways to Use Annuities in Public Benefits Planning”. He also spoke on legal and financial issues for Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. If you would like us to speak for your group, just give us a call at (214) 720-0102.

Michael B. Cohen has also been recently named as an adjunct professor of law by the Texas A&M University School of Law.

The Greater Dallas Walk to End Alzheimer’s is scheduled for Saturday, October 7. Please note the new location, Dallas City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla Street, Dallas, Texas. Registration is at 7:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. If you wish to participate or simply to donate, please visit the Team Page of Michael’s Marchers by clicking here.

Rob Novick, LCSW, owner of Full Circle Advisors, spoke on the “Conversation Project” for our July Bonus Workshop.

Please note that although the KAAM radio platform has changed (oldies music can still be heard online), Michael B. Cohen’s radio show "Know Your Legal Rights" will continue to air as it has in the past. The program is on Mondays at 2:00 p.m., Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. and on Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. on KAAM 770 AM. Podcasts of the shows are available on our website at www.dallaselderlawyer.com. If you want a question to be addressed on a future show, please mention the same on our website and we'll try to discuss the relevant topics.

Finally, since there has been much concern about potential changes in law (whether it be in connection with federal law such as repeal of Obamacare or tax reform or new state law-see articles below), we are now offering to our existing estate planning clients who are not on our Estate Plan Maintenance and Fee Guarantee Program (which is similar to legal insurance if laws change) the ability to join our Maintenance Program updating your documents (certain conditions do apply) for only $60-$75 per month depending on your documents.
