2019 Annual Installation Luncheon for CBA Young Lawyers Section

The Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section (YLS) hosted their 2019 Annual Installation Luncheon at Wildfire Chicago where 2018-2019 Chair Brandon Peck of Peck Ritchey LLC presided over the meeting and celebrated the Section's many accomplishments and outstanding committees, seminars and special projects established during this past year. Incoming Chair Octavio Duran was introduced and welcomed by all the board members and attendees.
Associate Patrick J. Bushell of Peck Ritchey LLC, a member of the YLS Estate Planning Committee, was selected as one of the recipients to receive the David C. Hilliard Award for Outstanding Committee Service and was honored during the reception.
Congratulations to our young and dedicated lawyers on their continuous efforts to serving the community.

| Elderwerks Signature Event |
We would like to thank Elderwerks for organizing this wonderful educational event for healthcare professionals in the aging industry along with seniors interested in the topic that focused on attorney Kerry Peck's new book "Don't Let Dementia Steal Everything." Participants analyzed examples of legal issues that arise when a patient's competency is an issue; they received an overview of Estate Planning documents and advance directives and how they are important, as well as, a Basic overview of the guardianship process.

| Buehler YMCA Silver Sneakers |
The Buehler YMCA in conjunction with their Silver Sneakers group asked for a presentation and insights to Public Aid and we delivered. Kerry Peck and Medicaid expert attorney Diana Law of Law Hesselbaum joined forces and discussed what public aid covers, how and when you can enroll for services in the community and requirements for public aid in a facility. The presentation also covered understanding how health care and long-term care is paid for during the senior years and a critical factor for protecting you, your survivor spouse, and your loved ones.

| Questioning Capacity |
Another wonderful CE (ethics) event for our wonderful Illinois nurses, professional counselors, social workers, and nursing home administrators at the Frisbie Senior Center in Des Plaines, IL where managing partner Kerry Peck discussed how to determine if an individual is capable of making decisions; distinguishing between diminished capacity vs. decisional capacity; the medical vs. legal determination of capacity and review the laws in place to protect people with capacity issues.

Robert Pirages joined Peck Ritchey in 2019 as a law clerk. As a second-year student at DePaul University College of Law, Robert is a staff member for the DePaul Journal for Social Justice as well as a Student Bar Association Mentor. He volunteered at the Center for Disability & Elder Law, speaking with potential clients about their issues and gathering information to assist them.
Olivia joined Peck Ritchey in 2018 as a law clerk. Olivia assists the firm by researching legal issues, drafting correspondence, and filing motions and pleadings. As a 2nd year student at DePaul University College of Law, Olivia is a student coordinator for the Neighborhood Legal Assistance Project, helping homeless individuals obtain state IDs and seal or expunge criminal records.
Blake Hooper joined Peck Ritchey in 2019 as a law clerk. Blake assists the firm by drafting letters of correspondence, researching legal questions, and filing documents. He just completed his first year at DePaul University College of Law and is a member of the Business Law Society.
