Welcome to the September issue of the
Texas Elder Law E-letter
Our prayers go out to all families impacted by Hurricanes Harvey & Irma. The IRS has given some relief as per the article below.
The Greater Dallas Walk to End Alzheimer’s is scheduled for Saturday, October 7. Please note the new location, Dallas City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla Street, Dallas, Texas. The ceremony begins at 8:00 a.m. and the walk begins at 8:30 a.m. If you wish to participate or simply to donate (and special thanks to KAAM 770 AM and the Percy Fund for its generous contribution to our walk team, Michael’s Marchers), please visit the Team Page of Michael’s Marchers by clicking here.
Our next free "Estate Planning Essentials" Workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 14 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. To sign up for a Workshop, you may call us at (214) 720-0102 or sign up online at www.dallaselderlawyer.com or click here to register online. Since it is already almost 2/3 full, it is anticipated that there will be a waiting list (as there usually is). So, if interested (or you know someone interested), it is probably best to sign up sooner rather than later.
We are also having a bonus workshop on upcoming changes and the main points to consider when choosing a Medicare option which is being presented by Carl Burlbaw of The Senior Source on Thursday, November 14 from 11:00 a.m. to noon. To sign up, either call our office at (214) 720-0102 or sign up by clicking here.
Please note that although the KAAM 770 AM radio platform has changed (oldies music can still be heard online), Michael B. Cohen’s radio show "Know Your Legal Rights" will continue to air as it has in the past. The program is on Mondays at 2:00 p.m., Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. and on Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. (although this may change during the SMU football season) on KAAM 770 AM. Podcasts of the shows are available on our website at www.dallaselderlawyer.com. If you want a question to be addressed on a future show, please mention the same on our website and we'll try to discuss the relevant topics.
Finally, since there has been much concern about potential changes in law, whether it be in connection with federal law such as repeal of Obamacare (at the present time the Graham-Cassidy ACA Repeal Bill emphasizing state block grants and per capita caps are being considered which can pass the Senate with only 50 votes provided that happens by September 30) or tax reform (see article below) or new state law, we are now offering to our existing estate planning clients who are not on our Estate Plan Maintenance and Fee Guarantee Program (which is similar to legal insurance if laws change) the ability to join our Maintenance Program updating your documents (certain conditions do apply) for as little as $60-$75 per month depending on your documents.
